Program Description

This course entitled “ASME B31 Series and Cross-Country Pipeline” is exclusively dedicated to covering the requirements of power, process, and transportation piping systems that are specified in ASME B31 code sections, and activities such as Right of Way (ROW), Clearing, Grading, Stringing, Trenching, Lowering, Backfilling, Tie-in, Welding, Bending, Non-destructive Testing, Field Joint Coating, Cathodic Protection, Special installation on pipelines like Markers, and Cleanup that are involved in standard cross-country pipeline construction. The ‘limitations of the open-cut method,’ the Horizontal Directional Drilling technique for horizontal earth borings, thrust boring, micro-tunneling techniques, and hot tapping techniques are discussed in detail.

Course Objectives:

  • To explain the evolution of ASME B31 Pressure Piping Series and discuss the layout of ASME B31.1 – Power Ping, ASME B31.3 – Process Piping, and ASME B31.4 – Liquid transportation code sections, interpret the stated requirements and perform the piping design to comply with these code sections.
  • To understand the importance of cross-country pipelines in the economic growth of nations
  • To understand the activities involved in standard pipeline construction, the limitation of the open-cut method, the role of the Horizontal Directional Drilling technique, the techniques involved in thrust boring, micro tunnelling, and hot tapping to repair the leaks in the pipeline
