Program Description

This tailor-made certificate course on ‘A Practical Approach to MV Substation Design – Part B’ is curated by the Subject Matter Experts and practitioners of L&T, and is structured pragmatically to help the learner understand the industry practices in carrying out the engineering for substations and selection of various substation equipment in accordance with Indian & International Standards. In addition, it covers the electrical safety rules, safe operating procedures and an overview of maintenance practices to give a holistic understanding of the subject. This course opens up opportunities for the learners to become/excel as an Electrical Design Engineer, Construction and Planning Engineer.

Course Objectives:

  • Learners will be able to understand the role of lightning arresters, various types of arresters and the design of direct stroke lightning protection system.
  • Learners will be able to understand various electrical clearance requirements & its importance will be explained.
  • Learners will be exposed to the correlation between SLD and physical arrangement of layout.
  • Learners will be familiarized with various aspects of cable routing layout.
  • Learners will be familiarized with the practical aspects of EKD.
  • Learners will be exposed to a typical earthing design of a substation as per international standards.
  • Learners will be made familiar with the civil engineering related aspects related to substation construction.
  • Learners will be made familiar with the arrangement of the Control Building, arrangement of structures with respect to Clearance, Sag & Vendor GA Drawing.
  • Learners will be made familiar with the mechanical engineering related aspects pertaining to firefighting and HVAC.
  • Learners will be made familiar with major impact of fire in SS & importance of fire protection in SS.
  • Learners will be made familiar with the need for maintenance of equipment, type of procedures to be followed & records to be maintained.
  • Learners will be made familiar with Electrical Safety Rules (i.e. IE Rules) associated with substation.
