Program Description

The course provides practical knowledge on concrete technology which includes testing of materials, Indian Standard code procedures, handling of concrete at projects, do’s and don’ts for concrete, etc. This course also provides knowledge on Self Compacting Concrete, Pavement Quality Concrete, Dry Lean Concrete and Mass Concrete. The learner will get practical tips on best practices in concrete construction from L&T’s decades of experience in handling hundreds of millions of cubic meters of concrete in its project sites. This course will help the learner acquire application-oriented knowledge in concrete technology.

Developing optimal concrete mix designs to achieve specific performance characteristics such as strength, durability, workability, and resistance to environmental conditions. Handled various prestigious projects in India and internationally, including airports, power projects, and tall structures. Expertise spans high-strength and self-compacting concrete, long-distance pumping, and mix design for specialized applications like 3D printing and high-performance grout.

Learning Schedule

Introduction to concrete, overview of materials- cement, low carbon cement, coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. and mineral admixture:- fly ash, GGBS, micro silica /silica fume, for metakaolin / rice husk ash, composite cement and ultrafine materials, lab test - fineness of fly ash.

Water and chemical admixture: source, requirements, limits and testing, Blending of aggregate -: Blending of fine and coarse aggregate, gradation for optimization and practical aspects.

Mix design - Volumetric mix design, mix design by absolute volume method, worked out practical examples based on industries experience at project sites over several decades. higher grades of concrete. test on concrete: workability of concrete, flexural and compressive strength tests.

Production of concrete-: batching plant, calibration, mixing and transportation of concrete, handling of concrete at construction: placing of concrete with boom placers, levelling and compaction. cold joints, finishing and curing and protection of concrete.

Special types of concrete: self-compacting concrete, mass concrete, dry lean concrete, geopolymer concrete, pavement quality concrete. challenges faced at sites: plastic shrinkage cracks, plastic settlement, honey comb, bug holes, cover to concrete, do's and don’ts in concrete construction. site shoot, introduction on 3D printing.
