Program Description

This course focuses on highway plants and machinery, construction planning, and the construction of subgrade, base, flexible, and rigid layers. It begins with an introduction to various highway plants and machinery, such as asphalt hot mix plants, concrete batching plants, and paving equipment, highlighting factors that affect their output and initiatives to improve quality. The course then covers the concept of highway construction planning, including schedules, monitoring, and the use of planning software. It proceeds with detailed specifications, construction practices, and quality control measures for constructing subgrade and base layers, including granular and cement-treated sub-bases. The course also explores the construction of flexible layers like wet mix macadam and hot mix asphalt, focusing on their functions, construction practices, and quality control. Finally, it addresses the construction of rigid layers, including dry lean concrete and pavement quality concrete, with an emphasis on specifications, paving methods, surface texturing, curing, and quality control.

Course Objectives

  • The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of highway project planning and it also provided the knowledge on various plants and machinery used in highway construction.
  • Learners will be able to develop skillful knowledge on pavement construction practices in alignment with IRC and MoRTH guidelines.
  • Additionally, the course emphasizes practical skills in constructing flexible and rigid pavements, aligning with Indian standards by providing insights derived from real-world experiences.
  • Learners will attain proficiency in the implementation of quality control and ensure compliance with construction practices in accordance with IRC and MoRTH guidelines.
